# Areas: grouping playground equipment by place

> **Short answer:** An area is an optional grouping of playground equipment by where it stands — a courtyard, a section of a park, one site in a portfolio. It is not a requirement, but with more than a handful of items it makes both the list and the round easier: you can walk a whole area at once instead of picking equipment one at a time.

## How to do it in Lekko

An area is an optional grouping — usually a part of the grounds or a section of the site. You do not have to use areas, but they give you a better overview once you have several pieces of equipment: the list is grouped by area, and you can walk a whole area in one round.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Write the name of the area under “Areas” and add it.
3. When you create or change a piece of equipment, choose the area under “Area”.

> Deleting an area keeps the equipment. It only loses its connection to the area.

## When the split starts to pay off

With three pieces of equipment in one courtyard, areas are overhead. With twenty pieces across four sites they are the difference between a round you can plan and a list you scroll through. The practical crossover is roughly where one person can no longer inspect everything in one sweep.

A property manager or a municipality with several sites in the same organisation gets the most out of it: the area becomes the address, and the inspection history can be read per place rather than per item.
