# Playground inspection: frequently asked questions

> **Short answer:** The questions that come up most often are about how often inspections are needed, what should be recorded, who may do what, and where the data is stored. The inspection flow works where the signal is poor, the data is stored in the EU/EEA, and you set the intervals yourself per level.

Short answers about intervals, records, roles, offline use and where the data is stored.

## How to do it in Lekko

### Does the app work where the signal is poor?

Yes. The inspection flow is built to cope with a slow or unstable connection. What you record is saved as soon as the connection is back.

### Where is our data stored?

In the EU/EEA. We use a small number of sub-processors for the database, image storage and e-mail; where one may process data outside the EEA, that transfer runs on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. See the current sub-processor list.

### What is the difference between an observation and a defect?

An observation is something you want to keep an eye on but which does not need an action yet. A defect is something that has to be followed up, and it goes into the list of defects automatically. Observations have a tab of their own.

### Can we change the intervals?

Yes, under Settings in the tab for inspections. There you control how often each level should be carried out, and how far ahead of the due date you want to be warned.

### Why is a piece of equipment red when nothing is overdue?

An open critical defect always makes the equipment red. Close the defect and the status updates.

### We chose the wrong equipment when the round started — do we start again?

No. Open the equipment menu inside the round and add or remove equipment. Answers you have already recorded are kept — including if you remove a piece by mistake and add it back.

### Where do I sign out on a phone?

Press “More” at the bottom right. Sign out is there, together with Documents, Settings, My account and Help.

### My sign-in link does not work — what now?

The link can only be used once and stops working after 24 hours, and it is always the most recent link that counts. Ask for a new link from the sign-in page and you are back in.

### Does Lekko carry out the annual main inspection?

No. EN 1176-7 describes that level as work for a competent person, and Lekko neither performs it nor replaces it. What the app does is remind you when it falls due, let you record the findings, and keep the report with the equipment it covered.

## Questions and answers

### How often should a playground be inspected?

EN 1176-7 describes three levels: a frequent routine visual inspection, a more thorough operational inspection, and an annual main inspection. The intervals for the first two are set from how hard the site is used, and the standard expects that judgement to be made and written down.

### Who is responsible for playground safety?

In practice, whoever owns the equipment. The work can be contracted out to a caretaker or a service company, and making sure it is done and recorded normally stays with the owner. Who carries a legal duty is set by national law and differs across this market.

### Is EN 1176 a law?

No. EN 1176 is a European standard published by CEN, not legislation. What makes any part of it binding is national law, and that differs from country to country. We do not claim to know what applies where you are.

### Do we need to hire somebody for the annual main inspection?

EN 1176-7 describes that level as work for a competent person and calls for a judgement independent of the people who run the site. In practice most owners buy it in. The other two levels are meant to be done by the people who look after the site.

### What should be recorded?

What equipment you have, which inspections were carried out and when, what was found, and what was done about it. An inspection that cannot be shown afterwards is hard to tell apart from one that never happened.

### Does the app work where the signal is poor?

Yes. The inspection flow is built to cope with a slow or unstable connection, and what you record is saved as soon as the connection is back.

### Where is our data stored?

In the EU/EEA. We use a small number of sub-processors for the database, image storage and e-mail; where one may process data outside the EEA, that transfer runs on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. The current list is in the sub-processor list.
