What is Lekko?
Lekko is a simple online tool for the ongoing inspection of playground equipment. You register the equipment, carry out inspections using ready-made checklists built from EN 1176 and EN 1177, follow up the defects, and pull out a report you can hand over in one click.
Do I need to be a playground expert?
No. Lekko comes with ready-made checklists built from EN 1176 and EN 1177. You simply follow them, item by item.
Does Lekko replace the annual main inspection?
No. The annual main inspection is described in the standard as a job for a competent person. Lekko takes the ongoing rounds through the rest of the year – and you can store the inspector's report alongside everything else.
Do we really have to check the playground regularly?
EN 1176-7 describes three levels of inspection – a routine visual inspection, an operational inspection and an annual main inspection – and it assumes that what was done is written down. What makes any of that binding is national law, and it is different from one country to the next, so we do not claim to know what applies where you are. What is the same everywhere: without a record, nothing shows that the checks happened.
Who is Lekko for?

Do you store data about children?
No. Lekko is about equipment and routines – we never store data about children. The only personal data is the name and e-mail address of the people who sign in, so that the right person can follow things up.

Does this apply to equipment we built ourselves?
Yes. What matters is the equipment, not the invoice. Home-built equipment is checked and maintained like bought equipment – and look at it especially closely, because it has not been built and tested to EN 1176.
Does it work on a phone?

Where is the data stored?
Inside the EU and the EEA. The database and the photos are with Amazon Web Services in Frankfurt (AWS Europe Central 1 – eu-central-1), and e-mail goes through a supplier with servers in Ireland (EU West – eu-west-1).
What do EN 1176 and EN 1177 say?
EN 1176 and EN 1177 – the European standards for playground equipment and impact attenuating surfacing – describe how equipment is built, installed and maintained, and how it is inspected. CEN's members adopt them as national standards, which is why the same technical content turns up under a different designation in each country. What makes any of it binding is national law, and that differs from place to place. You do not need to know the standards – Lekko has turned them into simple checklists.
