Your own playground checklist items
When it is right to add an item of your own to the checklist, and how it should be worded so two people answer it the same way.

Short answer
Your own checklist items cover what is specific to your site and no standard list can know about — a gate that has to close by itself, a drain that has to stay covered, a fence towards a road. They can apply to all equipment or only some of it, and they come last in the checklist.
How to do it in Lekko
On top of the built-in checklist items you can add your own — for example “Check that the gate to the playground closes by itself”, or anything else that is specific to your site.
- 1Go to Settings and choose the tab for inspections.
- 2Write the text of the item under your own items, and add help text if it is useful.
- 3Choose whether the item applies to all equipment or only to some of it.
- 4Save. The item appears at the next inspection.
Your own items always come last in the checklist for the equipment they apply to.
An item works best when it can be answered yes or no while standing in front of the equipment. “Does the gate close by itself?” is a question; “is the gate in order?” is a judgement, and two people will answer it differently.

How to word an item
The same rule as for the built-in items: it should be answerable yes or no while standing in front of the equipment. “Is the gate in order?” is a judgement; “does the gate close by itself?” is a question. Add a help text saying what a “no” means.
Your own items add to the built-in ones, they do not replace them. An item that repeats something the checklist already covers makes the round longer without making it better — and a round that gets too long gets skipped.
Lekko builds on EN 1176 and EN 1177. It says that the equipment has been checked against those standards — not that any national requirement has been met. What makes the standard binding is national law, and that differs across the countries this market covers, so we do not claim to know what applies where you are.
